Having a wedding at an amazing property in Robertson, NSW overlooking rolling green hills sounds like a perfect idea? Well, it was for Sam and Yasmin. Even better was the fact that the property belonged to the grooms parents. But having a wedding at home comes with a lot of additional challenges for planning the perfect day.
Guys Getting Ready – The Robertson Hotel
Sam and his groomsmen decided to get ready at the beautiful Robertson Hotel. The Robertson Hotel was built in 1924 and offers a beautiful location for wedding parties to get ready for the big day. The hotel was located only 5 minutes from the ceremony and reception venue which is always an advantage on a wedding day.
Girls Getting Ready – Kangaroo Valley, NSW
The bride and her bridesmaids along with her family choose to get ready in Kangaroo Valley at the Rivermist property. Rivermist is a large 6 bedroom homestead that is available for hire. The large airy rooms and stunning light made for one of the best bride getting ready areas that I have ever seen. The only challenge for us was the 37C temperature and awful humidity.
Bride and Father – First Look
I had the honour of serving in the Australian Army with the bride’s father, Kevin and so this Father Daughter First Look was especially meaningful. The soft sniffing as the bride tried to stop from sobbing as she approached her Dad made it hard for me to control my emotions. Once Kevin saw his daughter, neither of them could control their emotions anymore as they both embraced. It was the most touching Father Daughter First Look I had ever had the privilege to witness.
Wedding Ceremony – Robertson, NSW
Yasmin arrived with her parents and bridesmaid in a Jaguar Mark VII. The ceremony location was the grooms parent’s property and the views made for a spectacular location for a wedding ceremony. A very hesitate but brave flower girl led the processional down the aisle. The groom broke down as he first sighted his bride to be, arm in arm with her Dad, in full military dress. A short but very personal ceremony was conducted by Nina, a local celebrant. My favourite part was a list of things that love was all about, that got many laughs from our couple’s family and friends.
Bridal Party Photoshoot – Robertson, NSW
We were lucky to be able to use a neighbouring property for the photoshoot. This property was also where the movie Babe (with the cute little pig) was filmed. This made for a dramatic backdrop for some epic photos. One of my favourite photos was at the end, just beside a dirt road with the setting sun in the background.
Reception – Robertson, NSW
We returned back to the ceremony location for the reception. With a great deal of work from Sam and Yasmin’s friends and family the property was turned into a awesome location for a wedding reception. A wedding reception at home can take a lot of planning. Below is just a few of the many things that required planning :
- Additional lighting needed to be sourced for inside the shed and around the dance floor
- A coolroom was hired to store all the drinks for the event
- The property next door was a B&B which was hired for 3 days to allow for the catering staff to reheat food and for parking for all the guests
- Fancy portable toilets were hired (with lighting inside)
- Bales of hay, wine barrels and an additional table were hired
- A duke box was hired instead of a DJ
- OH&S requirements needed to be met for bar and wait staff working with the catering company
